I disagree with the last part. I am someone who always argues the genetic side, simply because in my field everyone else stresses the environmental side only. However, I do not believe there is nothing you can do about it. Genetics means you have a PROPENSITY to react a certain way, given a certain environment. This means that it takes much less to set one person off than it takes for another. At the same time there is a lot you can do to train a shy child to become less shy or an aggressive child to be less aggressive. Also, as you wrote somewhere else, some children react more strongly to mistreatment than others: if these children are not mistreated, however, they will be fine. Of course in extreme cases the propensity will shine through no matter what the treatment, but in many cases it depends on the environment how strongly the genetic propensity will be expressed.
